The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is one that has a rich rugby history. To celebrate the Year of Legends, the University has launched an app. This app has been developed in partnership with Ceredigion and Dyfi Biosphere Destination Partnerships.

New and Innovative Heritage App

With this partnership, the University has been able to develop a new and innovative heritage app. This app focuses on bringing the region’s stories, legends, and folklore to a new and broader audience. The UWTSD’s input focuses on celebrating the Lampeter’s place in rugby history. The town has been recognized as the birthplace of rugby in Wales.

The formed partnership received funding from the Regional Tourism Engagement Fund from VisitWales. Furthermore, this app is aimed to bring Ceredigion legendary landscape to life. It delivers stories, legend based games, activities and information to visitors as they roam the region with the use of their mobile devices.

“With Lampeter being the birthplace of Welsh rugby, it was fitting that the content about the town focused on its sporting heritage,” said a spokesperson.

This app works with the use of GPS and iBeacon technology. This helps to locate the user and push content to its mobile device based on its current location.  The use of this app wants to encourage visitors to engage more deeply with the culture of the region. The use of this new app will enable visitors to explore places and spaces that are associated with the legends contained in the app. Furthermore, the use of this app can be a great form of getting the region’s visitors to better explore a region. The use of the app enables visitors to get a more interactive experience and easily learn more about the region and its legends.
