At Timberland in New York City, products will have a tag that when tapped with a tablet in the store that customers can use, will bring up product info and related items. It will look much like what you might find at an online store. You can make notes, add items and then email this to yourself for later.
This will be great for people that don’t want to download the brand’s app nor talk to an employee for more info. That said, they have plans to have a more interactive Timberland app which will use beacons. At the moment, they do not want to use beacons to send out discounts, but rather send content based on what the customer is looking at in the store plus even what they had seen online. This will distinguish them from brands that only have discount messages in their beacon marketing mix.
