A couple of months ago, we wrote an article about the first MSC cruise ship that uses iBeacon technology to optimize customer experience and service. After a long waiting period, this cruise ship has finally been inaugurated.
The MSC Meraviglia Cruise Ship
The MSC Meraviglia ship departed from Saint-Nazaire, Brittany – France on the 31st of May. The ship had a champagne send by President Macron.
Meraviglia Cruise Ship is considered the biggest in Europe, measuring 1,033 ft and measures 213 feet tall. The ship will cruise around the Mediterranean until 2019, after that it will reposition to Miami to offer Caribbean cruises. MSC Meraviglia has room for 5,714 passengers over its 19 decks. This ship is innovative as it provides the passengers with a whole new experience. In fact, this cruise ship can be considered a smart ship.
Beacons on Board
The ship includes a LED dome, augmented reality mirrors and virtual reality experiences. Guests can make use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology on their cruise card. This can be done with the use of a smart bracelet or phone that enables them to track their children, access cabins of pay for items on board. Moreover, guests can enjoy a greater experience on board due to the use of iBeacon technology.
The MSC Cruise Ship can be seen as a good trial for the use of beacons on board. It will provide us insight on how this technology can help different industries to increase the experience of customers. Furthermore, it will also show how communication with customers can be improved with the use of location-based messages.
We will keep a close eye to how this technology will be applied by MSC and are curious to learn more about the results of the use of this technology.
