A new Heineken app in New Zealand promotes on-the-spot offers and rewards. With Heineken LIVE and thanks to iBeacons installed at 120 outlets and GPS, users can be recognized in different parts of cities and given rewards. A company based in New Zealand, Rush Digital, worked with Saatchi & Saatchi, to develop the app in about six months.

The way it works is that the more users get out, explore the city and visit Heineken venues, the more points they accrue. Over $500,000 worth of rewards will be on offer for the first six months, including VIP event tickets. There might even be a helicopter booked to take someone from one side of the city to the other for a party.

It is an innovative way to use beacons and should help people discover the best parts of their city.

Users must be 18 years and over to use the app.
