The University of Alabama’s Athletic Director, Bill Battle, gave an in-depth interview about technology and sports at the end of 2016. iBeacons was one of the technologies he highlighted as a new addition to Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium. They use the beacons as part of a loyalty/rewards program. A variety of actions can take place when rewards members walk near a beacon. Beacons are located throughout the stadium, including at concession stands. He highlighted beacons along with their experience app which includes in-venue seat upgrades & the ability to run out on the field.

This is a major project for beacons because the stadium is currently the 8th largest stadium in the world with a capacity of over 100,000. Beacons are currently used by many stadiums in the US and have more recently started to be used by other stadiums around the world.
